​The Theatre Arts Pathway is for all students, from those interested in a brief study of theater to those planning to pursue theater production and performance beyond high school.  The sequence of course offerings provides students with a pathway in which to explore the full range of their creativity and ambition for theater.

Introduction to Professional Acting

YEAR 1 
Introduction to Professional Theatre is the foundational course of the Theatre Arts Pathway.
All students begin here. The coursework is designed to enhance students’ sense of playfulness, enthusiasm, and confidence. Students study a full range of theatrical expression from comedic improvisation and theatre games, acting for theatre and film, plus introspective journaling, monologue, scene and sketch-comedy writing. This course is conducted in an exciting, interactive manner, which facilitates peer bonding & personal growth.  Introduction to Professional Theatre is designed for all students, regardless of prior experience.

 Intermediate Professional Theatre

YEAR 2
Intermediate Professional Theatre progresses through theatre history in a performance-driven manner. Students learn college-level performance skills, including scene analysis, vocal work, stage combat, audition techniques, and film acting. Theatre history provides the context by which students explore a vast breadth of theatrical styles, ranging from Shakespeare to contemporary theatre, musicals, and film. The coursework culminates in a two performances, one per semester, to showcase student work and allow them to experience the challenges and exhilarations of live performance.

Advanced Professional Theatre 1 & 2

YEAR 3 
Advanced Professional Theatre delves deeper into the creative and collaborative process by challenging students to create original content. Inspired by influential theatre troupes, writers, and theorists, students gain college-level understanding of theatre craft by writing and performing within various theatrical genres. Theatre as a vehicle for group discussion and growth is explored through Process Drama, Verbatim Theatre, and Augusto Boal's various theatre techniques.

YEAR 4 
Advanced Professional Theatre 2's focus is based on student interest. Students will prepare materials for transition to college & professional life. Student work has ranged from standup comedy and musical theatre to one-person shows and screenwriting. Students will be inspired to surpass their expectations by bringing their creative ideas to fruition.

TECHNICAL THEATRE

Stagehand Tech and Drama Production teaches the technical and creative side of technical theatre. On the technical side, students learn how to use construction equipment to build sets, plus hang and focus lights, tie knots, and many other skills necessary to support lives theatre. Additionally, students will learn the aesthetic evaluation and creative process of creating original set, lighting, and costume design. This coursework includes lessons in drawing, color theory, and elements of design.
